Last week, Sodi-Tech returned to PECO in Devon alongside MTDCNC to capture the latest chapter in a manufacturing story built around continued investment, in-house capability and a long-standing commitment to quality.
PECO is known globally for its model railway products, supplying customers across the UK and around the world. Behind those finished products, however, sits a highly capable in-house toolroom responsible for producing and maintaining the mould tools, press tools, jigs and fixtures that support the company’s manufacturing operation.
For Sodi-Tech, the visit provided a valuable opportunity to see first-hand how Sodick EDM technology continues to support that process.
Continued investment in Sodick technology
PECO has invested in Sodick technology over many years, using EDM as an integral part of its tooling strategy.
That investment continues today.
During the latest visit, the Sodi-Tech and MTDCNC teams were able to see how PECO is continuing to develop its manufacturing capability, while maintaining the same focus on precision, reliability and repeatability that has underpinned its growth.
The role of the toolroom is central to that.
By retaining such a significant level of capability in-house, PECO has greater control over the quality, maintenance and development of the tooling required to manufacture its extensive range of products.
From precision tooling to finished products
One of the most interesting aspects of the visit was being able to follow the process beyond the toolroom.
The tooling being produced and maintained using Sodick EDM technology ultimately supports the manufacture of some highly detailed and impressive model railway products.
Seeing that connection between the machine, the tooling and the finished component brings the value of precision EDM into sharp focus.
For PECO, the ability to maintain extremely high standards across its tooling operation plays a direct role in the consistency and quality of the products reaching its customers.
A long-term relationship built on more than machines
The relationship between PECO and Sodi-Tech extends beyond the supply of equipment.
Over the years, Sodi-Tech has continued to support the business with applications knowledge, service and technical expertise, helping PECO maximise the value of its EDM capability.
That long-term partnership remains an important part of the story.
As PECO continues to invest, innovate and expand its manufacturing capability, Sodick technology remains a key part of the company’s toolroom strategy.
Full story coming soon
The latest visit gave MTDCNC the opportunity to capture the people, machines, tooling and products behind the PECO operation.
The resulting feature will look more closely at the company’s continued investment, the role of Sodick EDM within its manufacturing process and the importance of maintaining world-class tooling capability in-house.
The full PECO and Sodi-Tech story will be released soon with MTDCNC.
